Our commitment
Our commitment: purifying indoor air while creating a positive social impact.
Christophe NEUMANN, General Manager
I chose French manufacturing, relying on a partnership with a Social and Solidarity Economy workshop: the Fédération des Aveugles du Grand Est.
Each Airpurlabs® purifier is rigorously and meticulously designed by 7 people with disabilities, whose expertise and high standards are at the heart of the product's quality.
This choice is not arbitrary. It reflects a conviction: innovation should not only serve performance but also have meaning.
By valuing these skills and supporting these talents, we actively contribute to a more inclusive and humane economy.
Thus, each Airpurlabs® purifier does more than just clean the air: it also helps to support our communities and strengthen social ties.
The Airpurlabs® active principle: what is it?
At Airpurlabs®, we have developed a unique and patented process that combines two complementary elements to purify indoor air: ultra-porous activated carbon and acetoacetamide. Together, they form the core of our technology.

1. Activated carbon: the basis of depollution
Activated carbon is an ultra-porous carbon-based material, obtained from bark or non-resinous wood, heated to different temperatures with water vapor and oxidizing gases.
This process gives it a very large contact surface and therefore exceptional adsorption capacity: our patented activated carbon reaches 1000 m² per gram.
Thanks to this structure, it can adsorb up to 100 times its volume in gases and effectively capture many pollutants. This is why it has long been used in water and soil purification, as well as in certain medications designed to cleanse the digestive system.
🔎 Absorption ≠ Adsorption
· Absorption: phenomenon of filling (like a sponge soaking up water).
· Adsorption: fixation of molecules to the surface of a solid, the principle on which activated carbon is based.
2. Air filtration using activated carbon
The more porous activated carbon is, the more effective it is. In indoor air, it acts like a real “depollution superhero,” adsorbing gases and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which are responsible for the degradation of air quality.
Our Airpurlabs® air purifiers are based on this principle but go even further thanks to the integration of a key molecule.
3. Airpurlabs® innovation: acetoacetamide
A major enemy of indoor air quality is formaldehyde, one of the most toxic VOCs, classified as a carcinogen. It is found in many common products:
🪵 Construction materials & furniture
· Reconstituted wood panels (plywood, MDF, particleboard, OSB, etc.) → urea-formaldehyde glues.
· New furniture (cupboards, bookshelves, desks, beds) containing glued panels.
· Laminate or floating floors (adhesives and resins).
· Plastic floor coverings (PVC, glued carpets).
· Glues, sealants, varnishes, paints (especially solvent-based products).
· Insulation (urea-formaldehyde foams used in some older constructions).
🚬 Domestic behaviors and uses
· Tobacco: cigarette and cigar smoke.
· Scented candles and incense: combustion releasing formaldehyde.
· Fireplaces, stoves, boilers: wood, coal, fuel oil, gas → formaldehyde emissions.
· Cooking food (especially deep-frying, grilling, high-temperature cooking).
🧴 Everyday products
· Household products (disinfectants, multi-purpose cleaners, laundry products).
· Air fresheners, scented sprays, diffusers.
· Nail polish, hairspray, eyelash or hair glue.
· Treated textiles (curtains, carpets, wrinkle-free clothing, stain-resistant bedding).
· Wallpaper, wallpaper paste.
🧪 Other possible sources
· School and DIY supplies (strong glues, solvents, markers, acrylic paints).
· Electronic equipment (computers, printers, heated plastics).
· Storage of chemicals in adjacent cellars or garages.
To address this, Airpurlabs® has incorporated a specific molecule into its process: acetoacetamide. This organic substance chemically reacts with formaldehyde and permanently fixes it to its structure.
It is this unique combination – ultra-porous activated carbon + acetoacetamide – that gives the Airpurlabs® patented process its particularity and strength.
Thanks to its two anti-pollutants, Airpurlabs achieves a 44% reduction in formaldehyde (in just 24 hours!) and approximately 30% for other tested VOCs (toluene and n-dodecane) under test conditions*.
