Our Story

Airpurlabs® air purifiers were born of a simple ambition: to reduce chemical pollutants in our homes durably, without adding yet another electrical appliance to our lives.

The beginning
Research on formaldehyde in Alsace

Our patented technology comes from work carried out in Alsace by the Inovame laboratory, with the CNRS and the Université de Haute-Alsace.

The goal: to capture chemical pollutants in indoor air, starting with formaldehyde, classified as carcinogenic.
First project
Cleaning up new furniture

Chipboard panels can emit formaldehyde. The original idea: to build a depolluting solution directly into furniture manufacturers' packaging.

The obstacle: adopting it meant admitting that their products could pollute. The technology existed; it had to be offered directly to the public.

“Maison poison” on France 5

Journalist Mériem Lay devotes a documentary to indoor air pollution: “Maison poison, quand nos intérieurs polluent”. Thierry Miclo, inventor of the process, presents the technology.

The coverage brings the innovation to public attention and gives birth to Airpurlabs®.
2016 · 2019
Recognised at the Concours Lépine

Bronze medal in 2016 for the Airpurlabs passive purifier, then gold medal in 2019 for the Airpurlabs Boost, its fan-assisted version with accelerated efficacy.

The efficacy of the active ingredient was measured by the independent institute FCBA (ISO 16000-23): up to −44% formaldehyde within 24 hours in a test chamber*.
2025
Tribute to Thierry Miclo

The inventor of the process passed away in 2025. Airpurlabs continues the work he began.
Today
Four formats, sewn in Alsace

A discreet textile object in 8 colours, for a bedroom, living room, office or car. No plug, no motor, no filter, effective for up to 2 years.

Each purifier is sewn in France by the Fédération des Aveugles du Grand Est, within the social and solidarity economy.
